Organic products directly from the smallholder farmers

LIMBUA works directly with more than 7000 contracted farmers, there are no middlemen.

You get fresh organic products from the farm and the farmers get paid fair and in full.

Meanwhile, more than 700 employees work in the rural LIMBUA production facilities.

In this way, the small farmers and their families are included in the value creation and the rural exodus to the slums of the cities is prevented.

And that even several times:

IFS Food, BRC Food Safety, EU Organic, Demeter, USDA Organic (NOP), Regenerative Organic Certified, Bio Suisse, fair-for-Life, Halal and Kosher.

LIMBUA is one of the few Kenyan companies to also have obtained IFS certification.

Since its founding in 2009, LIMBUA has emphasized exclusively organic farming in mixed cultures.

Many of the farmers have switched to organic farming only through their cooperation with LIMBUA.

LIMBUA processes only the high quality macadamia variety Integrifolia, not Tetraphylla.

Integrifolia has a higher oil and a lower sugar content and offers a better yield for the farmers.

Our entire Kenyan team, including management, works out of offices in the farmer communities and attends trainings regularly.

For our smallholders: Due to the completely digitized process, there is absolute security.  Solely digital, calibrated scales are used in purchasing, which do not allow any counterfeiting.

For LIMBUA, naturalness and progress do not contradict each other. Through our specially developed digital system, we have made great progress in making the harvest purchasing processes faster, easier and, above all, safer.

For our contract farmers, this creates a high degree of transparency and trust.

We have developed our own gentle raw food drying process using our self designed dryers, powered by the macadamia shells:

The uniform moisture content of the nuts is guaranteed and the risk of mold growth is reduced.

In addition, the process allows full traceability back to the individual smallholder farmer even after drying.

For LIMBUA, using resources responsibly means using all parts of the harvested fruits. For example, our smallholders use the green outer skin of the macadamias as valuable fertilizer after they have been shelled on site.

The brown shells of the nuts are being used to heat the ovens, which in turn are used to operate the drying plants to dry the nuts in a sustainable manner.
