Did you know that according to the World Health Organization, an average of 1.6M people get sick due to unsafe food every day?
By raising awareness and taking action at World Food Safety Day 2023 we can contribute to the prevention of foodborne diseases and support sustainable food systems. This includes implementing regulations and standards, enhancing surveillance and monitoring systems, promoting good agricultural and manufacturing practices.
Food safety is everyone's business..
..and the compliance with certified standards is an important step in this process.
Thanks to our Kenyan food safety team, LIMBUA is one of a few Kenyan companies to have obtained International Featured Standard IFS Food and BRC certification. We are proud to have achieved the IFS certification even with the higher level.
These certificates are a testament of our commitment to adhering to global standards for producing safe authentic and quality products. From freshly harvested raw materials right from our trusted farmers to on-site processing in our modern production facilities and direct shipping without intermediate trade, we guarantee risk management and maximum safety measures for our macadamia, avocado, mango, oils, and more.
Food standards save lives
Every year, one in 10 people worldwide contract foodborne illnesses - food standards help ensure the safety of our food. The LIMBUA team in Kenya strives to constantly monitor, improve and ensure compliance with processes ensuring the best quality of our products.
The food safety team has 12 members: Their main role is to guide the implementation a positive safety culture as required by the LIMBUA Food Safety Policy and the LIMBUA Food Safety Management System.
Their responsibilities include among others:
- ensuring safe food handling systems are in place
- training of the employees
- maintaining records
- fulfilling the requirements of various food safety standards
Thus, the team controls the food handling processes in the value chain, to ensure that the food produced is safe for consumption. Regular inspections and audits are conducted to assess the adherence to the prescribed guidelines of the Food Certifications.
Our traceability system also contributes to safety: we ensure traceability throughout the supply chain, from source to point of sale - This ensures a high level of food safety and quality for all LIMBUA products.
In summary, food safety is of utmost importance as it directly impacts the health, prevents foodborne illnesses, and creates consumer confidence in the food supply - so we are working daily to keep our food safe.
