LIMBUA products now also Naturland certified

LIMBUA is the world's first producer of Naturland-certified macadamia. For us, it's a new label but the same mission – sustainability that benefits everyone!
What does the Naturland seal represent?
The Naturland seal is awarded to products that are produced in compliance with strict ecological and social guidelines. While it builds upon EU organic standards, it exceeds them in several areas. The Naturland seal complements the many existing standards already adhered to by LIMBUA and focuses on two key pillars:
- Ecological Protection: Naturland ensures thorough oversight of all agricultural activities, from the use of natural resources to the prevention of pollutants. Strict limits, such as those on the use of antibiotics in livestock farming, combined with detailed record-keeping, guarantee maximum transparency and environmental protection.
- Social Protection: Naturland ensures that high social standards are maintained throughout the entire value chain. This includes workplace safety, access to sanitary facilities, and protection from harmful environmental conditions such as heat and dust.
The Naturland seal is one of the world’s leading standards for organic farming and sustainable production. The Naturland Association was founded in Germany in 1982 with the mission to combine ecological agriculture with social and fair criteria. Today, Naturland operates in more than 50 countries, certifying over 60,000 farms worldwide.
Thanks to organic farming, the natural resources on which smallholder farmers depend are protected
Animal Welfare as Part of Sustainable Agriculture
While LIMBUA primarily focuses on processing macadamia nuts, avocados, and mangoes, animal welfare is an essential aspect of sustainable farming. Ensuring proper living conditions for animals is crucial to maintaining the balance between people, animals, and the environment. The LIMBUA smallholder farmers operate mixed farms, where most of them keep animals such as cows, goats, or chickens for personal use or to sell their products. These animals play a vital role in agricultural cycles, providing milk, eggs, or natural fertilizers.
Naturland sets clear guidelines for animal husbandry, including sufficient space, natural feed free from genetic engineering, and a prohibition on preventive use of medications like antibiotics. Instead, natural and gentle alternatives to synthetic chemicals are encouraged. These standards promote responsible animal care, contributing to the overall sustainability of farming operations.

Benefits of the Naturland Certification for Smallholder Farmers
By gaining advanced knowledge, smallholder farmers learn to make their agricultural practices even more sustainable and to protect the ecosystem. At the same time, Naturland's clear guidelines help improve working conditions on farms, including enhanced safety measures and health precautions.
Another key benefit is the reduction of potential contamination risks, such as those associated with animal husbandry. This not only improves product quality but also ensures food safety for consumers. Overall, the Naturland certification helps farmers align their work with long-term ecological and social responsibility.
Additionally, the certification opens up new market opportunities for smallholder farmers, providing them with economic security and better planning prospects for the future.
Conclusion: Responsibility for People, Animals, and the Environment
The Naturland seal represents agriculture that values both people and the environment—principles that have been integral to LIMBUA from the start. This certification not only reflects the high quality of the products but also the dedication of the many individuals involved with LIMBUA who contribute to a sustainable future.
With its emphasis on a fair and eco-friendly value chain, the Naturland seal benefits everyone—from smallholder farmers to consumers.
