For over a decade, LIMBUA has been committed to producing high-quality organic products. Now we are celebrating another milestone: we are proud to now offer Demeter products. This Demeter certification not only recognizes our commitment to quality, but also the world's first Demeter-certified mixed-culture smallholder project.

What is Demeter?

Demeter stands for biodynamic agriculture and is more than just a certificate: it is a philosophy that manifests itself in every aspect of food production. The goal of Demeter is to respect natural cycles while taking into account the social aspects of agriculture.
The certification ensures that farming is done in harmony with nature and the seasons. Its holistic approach not only results in healthy Demeter products, but also promotes respect for natural processes and appreciation of the environment.

For LIMBUA, the Demeter certification is complementary to our existing certifications and underscores our commitment to environmental integrity and sustainable practices. We have lived by the principles of organic agriculture since we began farming more than a decade ago. The Demeter certification reinforces our commitment to the highest standards in agricultural production.

The Demeter certification brings a wealth of benefits that perfectly complement our company values. Smallholder farmers, who participate in the Demeter program, benefit from special training and free biodynamic preparations. Most importantly, they achieve higher crop yields due to improved soil health. This not only strengthens their economic stability, but also promotes long-term agricultural sustainability.

Pesticide-free and close to nature

One aspect of the Demeter standard is the strict regulation of the use of pesticides. Consistent with the goal of supporting natural ecosystems, synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers are prohibited. Instead, alternative methods such as plant fortifiers and composting are preferred. This not only protects the environment, but also ensures that our Demeter products are free of harmful residues.

While the organic seal already sets high standards for organic farming, Demeter goes one step further: biodynamic agriculture not only emphasizes the absence of synthetic interventions, but also promotes a holistic and regenerative approach to agriculture. Teamwork for certification

The Demeter certification was not a task accomplished by individuals, but the result of a coordinated team effort. Different departments of LIMBUA joined forces: Especially the work of the LIMBUA Nursery, which was at the core of the preparations, needs to be emphasized, as well as the Field Team, which ensured that the smallholders complied with the strict regulations. The Demeter & Special Projects Department played a key role in the implementation and application of all biodynamic/Demeter activities.

Our Demeter certification, along with other organic certifications, is an incentive for LIMBUA to continue its commitment to organic agriculture. As pioneers of the world's first Demeter-certified small-scale mixed farming project, we are more determined than ever to shape the future of agriculture in harmony with nature.
