LIMBUA field team: The bridge between farmers and us

LIMBUA Field Manager

Today, we would like to give you a glimpse into our unique field team, which serves as the critical interface between LIMBUA and the more than 7,000 valued smallholder farmers we work with.

We purchase a variety of valuable crops such as Macadamia nuts, avocados, mangos and Coffee from the smallholder farmers associated with us. These agricultural products are grown with love and care on their organic mixed farms, which are the heart of our mission for a sustainable future.

The tasks of our field team are diverse and include recruiting new smallholder farmers, conducting farm inspections, carefully planning the harvest, as well as purchasing and delivering the crops on time to LIMBUA's decentralized facilities.

Best yields through optimal training

The natural cultivation of macadamia nuts has a long tradition in Kenya. That is why we have recruited local organic agronomists for the LIMBUA team. They organize trainings and supervise our smallholder farmers in all aspects of cultivation, harvesting, hygiene measures, processing, organic certification and quality assurance:

  • Optimal planting of trees as well as an environment conducive to growth

  • Training in organic cultivation, in recognizing the state of ripeness

  • Instruction on short term storage on the farm and on optimal outdoor conditions for maximum preservation of freshness and quality

This hands-on support of the field team is a cornerstone of our philosophy and ensures the quality and integrity of the organic products they grow for us.

A team with diversity

Our field team currently consists of over 50 employees who are passionate and dedicated to their work. They fill various positions that are specifically tailored to the needs of our farmers.

The teams are composed of managers, supervisors and other positions. Managers are the coordinators of all field activities and administer instructions to the wider team, which includes, among others: field supervisors, agronomists, the purchasing team and the harvesting team.

Many team members are qualified agronomists who are entrusted with the practical management of the farms and the direct supervision of a group of farmers within a region. This unique combination of professionals ensures comprehensive support and oversight of our agricultural practices.

The field team members do more than that, though: They not only ensure that harvesting is done properly, but also make sure that produce is picked up on time by the purchasing teams. They are also committed to improving the livelihoods of the smallholder farmers. Through free advice, influence and the implementation of organic farming concepts, they actively contribute to strengthen the living conditions of the farmers.

For quality and sustainability

Our unique model ensures transparency and accountability at every stage of the process. It ensures that smallholder farmers receive regular guidance to update their farm management. This guarantees 100% authenticity and integrity of the products we buy from them. Our customers benefit from full traceability to the origin of our products and enjoy the assurance that they are receiving high quality and ethically produced organic products.

Together for a better future

It is not only the quality of our products that is important to us, but above all the well-being of smallholder farmers. By securing the sale of their harvests, we give them the opportunity for a sustainable future.

Thanks to the close cooperation between our field team and the farmers, we are proud to offer high quality organic products that are in harmony with nature and the needs of our customers. We firmly believe that these partnerships not only improve the livelihoods of the smallholder farmers, but also promote the health of the community.
